More Awful Things: No, Conservative is NOT the new gay

...really?

i can't even find the right words to use here, beyond...just because you feel outnumbered because you're in a predominately liberal area, that's going to be true of pretty much any ideology where you're in the minority. And mind you, the gay comparison hardly works when your ideology's backing the most-watched  cable TV news channel by a wide margin and has the top talk radio hosts - 2 of whom your site mentions on your sidebar. Oh my, you are so oppressed. I lament your regrettable position in life.

Of course, maybe the reason that people sneer at you so much is your utter lack of perspective on issues? I mean, trying to compare being conservative to being gay (despite your excuse that you know it's not the same) is NOT in any way, shape, or form comparable. I have a good feeling that the number of people being beaten, murdered, or discriminated against for being conservative is far less than those for being gay. Think about it sometime. Being conservative and being sneered at because you're doing so is far better than being a part of any other kind of minority. Like America's least trusted minority, for example. Being conservative in a liberal area is NOTHING.

So...you're not familiar with how free thinkers have been treated in totalitarian societies? Or homosexuals, for that matter? If you're different in a socialist country, you get beaten, jailed, humiliated, tortured. My grandfather, for example, had the audacity to write conservative views in his own newspaper as the Communists took over Czechoslovakia. KGB harassed the family for years. He was jailed. Other things happened that I need not mention on your blog. Please read some accounts of what happens to capitalists in other nations.

In this country, a black man was beaten by white democrats for being a Tea Partier. You probably never heard about that (check out Bill on PJTV.com).

Also there are certain professions where it is career suicide to come out of the Conservative closet. And I am not about to out any of my friends.

Ta, for that. I'll admit it might not be easy but I would rather walk around in a Palin shirt than a dress in most parts of America as far as safety is concerned.

Your first paragraph, while interesting, is hardly relevant to the specific context - for now, but it will be.

And do you have a specific link to what he's said? Mind you, I'm initially skeptical that Democrat on Republican violence but if you can point me to evidence showing that it's an actual violent hatred at play rather than just some specific isolated incidents, I will consider it. I still don't think that the plight of the conservative in this country is anywhere as bad as things like the blog post in mention would make it out to be.

Mind you, I'm not condoning discrimination against ideologies to where it's not interfering with the job itself - anyone who thinks their side are full of perfect angels who can do no wrong don't know what they're talking about, and acting as such is foolish at best, dangerous at worst - I'm arguing HERE, that saying that being conservative is the new gay, only a year and a half after a Republican president left office, is foolish because conservatives do not have to go through anything  compared to what other minorities have to put up with for factors even beyond their control.

And actually, your first paragraph disproves what the rest of you are saying - historically, conservative viewpoints across the worldhave suffered far worse than what they go through now. Remember, once again, conservative viewpoints dominate talk radio and cable news - and conservativism is HARDLY a political minority (given that we're willing to elect different political parties as the winds change) - a few years from now when Republicans gain control of the government back, if being conservative is still akin to being gay. You'll see how foolhardy this thinking is right now.
